Confronting Global Health Challenges
The Bureau for Global Health (GH) at USAID confronts global health challenges through improving the quality, availability, and use of essential health services in the areas of child, maternal, and reproductive health, and the reduction of abortion and disease, especially HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis. GH supports field health programs, advances research and innovation in selected areas relevant to overall Agency health objectives, and transfers new technologies to the field through its own staff work, coordination with other donors, and a portfolio of grants and contracts with an annual budget in excess of $1.6 billion. It is the Global Health Fellows Program vision to develop and support technical experts with the talent and diversity needed to enhance USAID’s health leadership and to strengthen effective systems that enable professional development and organizational performance.

A Commitment to Diversity
Attracting and retaining diverse new talent to the Agency’s health programs is a key goal of GHFP. We believe that a more richly textured workforce will be of great benefit as USAID’s Global Health Bureau moves into the future. One way of achieving this goal is to provide internship opportunities to students and graduates of minority serving institutions including Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic Serving Institutions and Tribal Colleges and Universities. While all of our internships are available to any qualified individuals who would like to apply, four in particular (Malaria Intern, Management Resources Planning Intern and Program Management & Publication Intern) are designated for students or graduates of minority serving institutions.

US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status Required
GHFP interns will be placed in offices within USAID, which is located in a secured government facility requiring security clearance for all staff. To be eligible for security clearance, an applicant must be a US citizen or a permanent resident. Participation in the GHFP internship program is contingent on the applicant successfully obtaining an interim security clearance.
