About Us : The Program

Our Vision and our Work

As new health challenges emerge and complex global initiatives are created to meet them, the ability to respond effectively is crucial. The vision of GHFP-II is to develop a diverse group of global health professionals, at different stages in their careers, to support and sustain the effectiveness of USAID’s Bureau for Global Health programs, now and into the future. This five-year cooperative agreement is led by the Public Health Institute and partners CDC Development Solutions and Management Systems International.

Program Result Areas

Building on what works
GHFP-II has expanded on the successes of GHFP-I with a wider range of talent and placement sites; engagement with a broad network of universities, related organizations and social media sites; and innovative systems for recruitment, onboarding, operational support and monitoring. These innovations open the door to efficient, flexible and service-oriented support to program participants and USAID throughout the GHFP-II experience.

Expanding non-traditional experiences
Utilizing an integrated approach to diversity across all activities, GHFP-II is committed to encouraging GH career exposure for entry and mid-career professionals and retention of USAID’s Foreign Service National staff. By bringing new partners to USAID—through private sector short-term fellowships –GHFP-II brings fresh skills and fresh perspectives to the work as it deepens and widens the GH professional pipeline.

Integrating performance oriented professional development
Defining desired learning coupled with a tailored professional development approach is an important part of the GHFP-II experience for fellows. Developed in concert with USAID, there are common expectations for the fellows’ professional development, plus a customized plan for each fellow. A range of learning options are available, including regional and web-based learning for overseas fellows.
